I guess it’s a good news, bad news situation.  I’m almost always violently opposed to mega-mergers.  Especially when they involve media companies.  Consolidating media outlets means that our access to information gets choked even more than it already is.  Soon we will wind up with only a few billionaires deciding what thoughts and opinions are worthy of airtime.  When that happens, we are fucked. The Ubiquitous Mr. Wein

Len Wein’s death, last week, affected me on a very personal level.  More than any of the other recent deaths from industry legends.  I didn’t bother to eulogize Mr. Wein because others did it more effectively than I could have.  His numerous credits and awards were well documented.  Everyone knows he was the co-creator of Wolverine, Swamp Thing and many of the second wave of X-men.  There is no point in me rehashing all of that. Marvel Misses

I read a couple of recent articles in which Marvel exec David Gabriel stated that issues of Marvel titles featuring women and ethnically diverse characters just weren’t selling well. He was quoted as saying, “people didn’t want any more diversity. They didn’t want female characters out there.” In effect, titles starring or featuring female characters front and center weren’t selling, and by extension, dragging down overall sales figures for the entire line.
