2016 sucked. Apropos of nothing, here are my predictions for 2017. Misty Knight will be the new Captain America. By July, DC will be making noises about rebooting one of their major characters yet again. Bruce Banner will come back from the dead…again. Thanos will continue to be overused. Amadeus Cho will continue to be a tool. Moon Knight will continue to be brilliant…and then be cancelled. Doctor Strange will be cancelled by October. Kamala Khan will experience violent prejudice first hand.  My money says her brother gets attacked or…

The Coin

I just read today two troubling reports about a couple of well-known comic artists. Given the current zeitgeist, it worries me, and makes me wonder which side other comic book creators fall into. This is the elephant in the room, of course. It seems one can’t talk about anything without having to address, or at least acknowledge, recent events. But how they affect the different aspects of the American and human experiences has become a near-constant series of surprises to me and, perhaps, to all of us. This divide seems…

This is the Harley Quinn story I’D like to see

I sometimes peruse an artist on DeviantArt whose name is Nebezial (link HERE). He does outstanding artistic renditions of DC and Marvel characters (among others), and I wonder whether he does it as true fan-art or if he’s developing a portfolio to approach one of these companies for work. I honestly hope he does, because he’d be an awesome addition to either company’s artistic bullpen. His art doesn’t change drastically between the intentionally funny to the dramatic. And he’s consistently good. Tonight, I was digging through his DA page and found…

I Was Wrong (And I Couldn’t Be Happier About It)

Back on May 23, of this year, I wrote a scathing review of the (as yet unreleased) PS4  versions of Batman: Arkham Asylum and Batman: Arkham City which Rocksteady and Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment were working feverishly on.  I was not kind.  I believe I said the updated graphics looked something akin to a turd omelette. Well, I stand corrected.  Rocksteady just dropped a new trailer comparing the updated graphics, side by side with the originals.     I have to admit, this is a vast improvement over what they showed us in May.  For the most…

Dangerous Mood Swings.

Previously I had queried what was left for Rocksteady and Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment to squeeze out of the Arkham franchise. I asked this in reference to the announcement that they were releasing Batman: Return to Arkham, this July.   What was left for players to do in Arkham, er, I mean Gotham.  Hadn’t Rocksteady killed off the bat that laid the mopey egg?  Or was that Robin?  No, wait, which Robin?  Aw, hell.  I’m depressed. Then, I found out yesterday that Return to Arkham is actually just the previous…

Harley Quinn: The Movie?

DC Entertainment is reportedly exploring the possibility of a spin-off movie for Harley Quinn. The idea for the film was proposed and is being promoted by actress Margot Robbie, who will appear as the character in the upcoming Suicide Squad movie, and who would star in and produce the spin-off. Harley Quinn was originally created by Paul Dini for Batman: The Animated Series, as sidekick, girlfriend and foil for the Joker. Her popularity grew so much that she was officially made comics-canon shortly after her debut in the series, and has been featured in…

Gamestop Leaks an Image, Warner Bros. Leaks in Your Face.

Because the world runs on spoilers, some witless git at Gamestop Italy has leaked the artwork for The next Batman Arkham game, Batman: Return to Arkham.  Wait, what?  The next game in the Arkham series?  Didn’t the last game in the Arkham series pretty much wipe its ass with the Batman and bury him in an ignoble ash heap? The good news is, the game is produced by Rocksteady, the folks that gave us Batman: Arkham Asylum and Batman: Arkham City.  The bad news, is the game is produced by…

R: for Restricted Audiences Only

So, DC Animation Studios have announced that Batman: The Killing Joke is going to receive an R rating.  Let that sink in for a minute.  An R rated cartoon based on classic comic book characters from DC. As expected, a lot of folks on the internet are already circling the wagons, lighting the pitchforks and sharpening the torches.  No…wait.  Eh, you get the picture.  Anyhoo, I’m sure with my track record you, gentle reader, are expecting me to join their frenzied number.  I, the Kraken, should be flailing my tentacles…
