The news broke today that producer, writer and director of the upcoming Justice League movie, Zack Snyder, along with his wife, producer Deborah Snyder, will be stepping down from completion of the film after a family tragedy.
In the last couple of months, the Snyders have been working with director/writer of Marvel’s The Avengers, as well as the upcoming Batgirl movie, Joss Whedon to complete the Justice League film. Whedon will do pickups, inserts and other additional scenes to add to the footage already shot by Snyder. He had already written additional scenes and performed some script doctor work on the screenplay. Principal photography wrapped in October of last year, and the film is still on track for its November 17 release date.
Two months ago, the Snyders’ daughter Autumn died from a suicide attempt. The Snyders have kept this news from the media until just yesterday, when they revealed they would be stepping back from the film to spend time with their seven surviving children.
Snyder stated that at first he attempted to bury himself in post-production of the movie, but later realized that it was more important to be with his family as they dealt with this tragedy.
We at RTK wish the Snyders well in their time off, and our hearts go out to them and their family during this sad time.
