Back on May 23, of this year, I wrote a scathing review of the (as yet unreleased) PS4 versions of Batman: Arkham Asylum and Batman: Arkham City which Rocksteady and Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment were working feverishly on. I was not kind. I believe I said the updated graphics looked something akin to a turd omelette. Well, I stand corrected. Rocksteady just dropped a new trailer comparing the updated graphics, side by side with the originals.
I have to admit, this is a vast improvement over what they showed us in May. For the most part, these graphics equal, and often surpass, the originals. The clarity is definitively higher throughout. Many of the textures look richer and more fully realized. There are obvious palette shifts here and there but that is to be expected. And, for some reason, the Joker’s lipstick is still a little too garish. But I have to stand up and take my lumps. I was wrong. This is a triumph for DC and Warner Bros. in a year when they sorely need one. My hat’s off to ’em and I can’t wait to play these damn games again. Because I hate Batman: Arkham Knight like it was a sack of plague badgers.
Batman: Return To Arkham hits the shelves on October 21. Shut up and take my money, already!
