Marvel Update

Well… If you’re like me, there were a couple of bits of disappointing news in the world of the MCU this week. I’ll be brief, or as brief as a verbose Kittenn such as myself can be. So here we go. First, my heartfelt dream of seeing Katee Sackhoff don the red, blue and gold of Captain Marvel was pretty much dashed at the announcement at SDCC that Brie Larson had indeed been cast in the role. Who knows? Maybe I’m wrong. She might be perfect for the role. And…

SDCC Special: Welcome to the Trailer Park

As is usual during San Diego Comic Con, every studio and their grandmothers puts out trailers for movies and television shows. This year is no exception. And there are about a million of them. Or two. I’m not sure. But there’s a lot. But I thought it’d be nice – and maybe the start of an annual tradition – to showcase some of these trailers and give my impressions of what we should expect to see in the coming twelve months or so. To start, I’m going to admit that this…

False Dawn: The Ultimate Sin

Brace yourselves. Go eat, take a shower, get comfy. You’re in for a long, sad ride. You have been warned. First, please note that aside from the image next to these words, there will be no other pictures with pithy captions. Also, there will be no tags at the bottom of this piece.  I know that’s the way we usually do it around here, and there’s a possibility RTK himself might woodshed me about this. But I have my reasons. We’re going to have a nice, long talk about Zack…

This is a busy news day.  Brian Truitt of USA Today reports that Captain America will be getting his own statue in Brooklyn, in honor of his 75th anniversary.  The 13′ bronze sculpture is scheduled to be dedicated in Prospect Park on August 10th.  San Diego Comic-Con fans will get a sneak peek at the sculpture, July 20-24.  The sculpture will feature the quote, “I’m just a kid from Brooklyn”a featured in Captain America: The First Avenger.  It also appears that Chris Evans’ likeness from the film will be used. This…

News Round-Up.

Principal shooting on Thor: Ragnarok began this morning.  The cast for this flick is awesome and we finally get to see Planet Hulk on the big screen.  Huzzah!   In other news, Marvel announced that Tony Stark would be replaced as Iron-Man by Riri Williams, a 15-year-old African-American woman.  This is outstanding news because A). Michael Bendis will be writing it… and B). Racist fucktards all over the world will be pounding on their keyboards (with both hands, for once) non-stop in protest.  It sure does make things simple when these…

What We Need Is Guy Gardner…No, Really.

It’s all rainbow flags and pink unicorn farts at Marvel Comics, these days.  Diversity is in full vigor at The House of Ideas.  Captain America is a black man.  Ms Marvel is a Muslim of Palestinian descent. Gays and lesbians are represented on most of the major super teams.  There are no white males on The Ultimates. A-Force looks like it might devolve into a Cinemax soft-focus pillow fight at any moment.  Everything is hunky dory.  So why am I griping? *  I’m griping because things are too perfect.  There’s…
