By the time you read this, the news has already broken, but just when my utter, complete, rapturous joy at the news that Supergirl is getting a second season on The CW has barely subsided, they announce that the Big Kahuna himself, Kal-El of Krypton will be appearing in the first two episodes of the new season!
Now, in my previous article, I mentioned about how coyly they inserted Supes into scenes where you didn’t really see him, but it was obvious that it was him, whether it be a silhouette, a familiar red boot, or a red-and-blue blur that didn’t have blonde hair mixed in. I loved that. It showed that Clark was fully a part of the universe this show inhabits, but didn’t overwhelm the viewer or take away from the titular character in any way. It was clever and always well done.
And now… we get the see the man himself! If it sounds like I couldn’t be more excited about this, well, you don’t know me very well.
Especially after the bad taste That Director Who Makes Michael Bay Look Restrained And Genteel By Comparison left in the mouths of everyone who saw that movie I still haven’t seen and don’t plan to…
I trusted the showrunners for Supergirl to deliver a heroine I could love, respect and believe in, and they delivered. Now it’s their turn to show their take on the main man. I know in my heart that this Kryptonian might have at least one or more genuine smiles here and there, and I can’t wait to see how he fits into the story.
And yet again, amidst bad news and dashed hopes piling upon each other, Supergirl (at least the show) throws down a ray of hope.
