I Know My Value – a Postmortem

In the past couple of weeks, RT has been after me to write my promised follow-up to the Supergirl article, regarding the ABC series Agent Carter. I had told him that once I’d finished watching all of the episodes of the former, I’d work on an article for the latter, telling you why you should be watching this show. Now I have the task of telling you why you should have watched this show. Agent Carter was cancelled by ABC this week. There were hints that this would happen. First,…

Darwyn Cooke 1962-2016

Celebrated comics artist/writer Darwyn Cooke passed away early this morning, after battling what was called an “aggressive” form of cancer. It was only two days ago that it was announced that he would be receiving palliative care. Cooke, who was well-known for his retro-modern drawing style, highly reminiscent of old school comics artists such as Milton Caniff, Jack Kirby and Will Eisner, first began working in the comics industry in 1985, but to no discernible acclaim. He moved to Canada and worked as a graphic designer and art director for…

First, the good news… Supergirl Returns!

Ever since I wrote my epic take on the inaugural season of Supergirl, the show had been on the bubble, teetering between renewal and cancellation. Speculation, expectation and hopes went both ways: Some people (me, for one, because I cannot live without seeing Melissa Benoist‘s radiant take on the heroine) wanted the show renewed; some people wanted the show cancelled. Not enough bang for the $3 million-dollar-per-episode average expenditure, they said. Who wants to watch a show about a girl, anyway, even if she can fly? they asked. This is kids’…

Darwyn Cooke Begins Receiving Palliative Care.

Comics giant Darwyn Cooke has begun receiving palliative care in response to the “aggressive” cancer from which he has been suffering.  Aside from being a prolific artist with an immediately recognizable style, he also wrote some wonderful tales.  He is best known for his work on the now classic DC: The New Frontier.   He also did extensive work for various entries in DC’s animated universe.  His wife Marsha had this to say: “It is with tremendous sadness that we announce Darwyn is now receiving palliative care following a bout with aggressive…

Arrow: Season 4 is Pretty Damn Good. But I’m Still Gonna Nitpick it. ‘Cause I’m a Jerk.

This is a very tender subject.  Very tender, indeed.  How to say all of this without being a dick?  See, it borders on body shaming and that is an ugly fucking place I never want to go.  Especially here where I might accidentally influence somebody in a negative way (Yes, I’m vain enough to think that might happen).  But I’ve got to mention this. Stephen Amell is built like a brick shit house.  It’s no secret.  The show’s creators go to great lengths to get his shirt off and remind…

Hang The Crepe

“I know my value. Anyone else’s opinion doesn’t really matter.”   Marvel’s Agent Carter has been cancelled.  Hunter will be going into mourning, now.  I expect an obituary from him shortly.  This truly sucks.  Margaret Carter was a great character and Hayley Atwell portrayed her ably.   She was also a role model for a lot of young women.  It’s a sad day.

Gamestop Leaks an Image, Warner Bros. Leaks in Your Face.

Because the world runs on spoilers, some witless git at Gamestop Italy has leaked the artwork for The next Batman Arkham game, Batman: Return to Arkham.  Wait, what?  The next game in the Arkham series?  Didn’t the last game in the Arkham series pretty much wipe its ass with the Batman and bury him in an ignoble ash heap? The good news is, the game is produced by Rocksteady, the folks that gave us Batman: Arkham Asylum and Batman: Arkham City.  The bad news, is the game is produced by…

Stone in Love.

Based on this quote…   “I am going to do a Marvel movie. I’m just doing a wee part in a Marvel movie, upcoming, and I can’t tell, because you know, you have to sign confidentiality agreements. But I’m going to do a wee part in a Marvel movie now. That’s it.”   It’s entirely possible that we will be seeing Sharon Stone portraying Janet Van Dyne in the next Ant-Man movie.  Gotta admit, they could have done worse casting.   Sharon Stone is known for having a near genius…

Captain America: Civil War Does Monster Numbers.

Captain America: Civil War had the fifth biggest domestic opening weekend in box office history earning $181.8 million this weekend.  For those at Warner Brothers’ keeping score, it beat Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice by over 15.78 million dollars.  What am I saying?  No one at Warner Brothers’ keeps track of that sort of thing.  Nor did any one at WB brag that Bats and Supes would bury Cap.   Naw, no one at Warner Brothers’ cares about that sort of thing.  All they care about is delivering quality entertainment…

A Toast, “To Colton Haynes!”

It’s Kentucky Derby time here and the city has gone mad.  People are already drinking by 10 AM.  The bourbon is everywhere.  A local just posted this amazing image.  If anyone out there knows who to credit, please let us know.     Oh, also, Colton Haynes came out.  I’m shocked.  Are you shocked?   OK, no one is shocked.  Most of us suspected for some time.  ‘Cause we’re petty like that.  And it’s fun to be petty like that. There are those who might say that it’s not as bold…
