Well, the concept art that Marvel Studios released today pretty much confirms the rumors on IMDB that Hela will be the villain (or at least one of the villains) in Thor: Ragnarok. Cate Blanchett is a confirmed cast member and has been hinting that she’s the baddie. If she has in fact been cast as Loki Laufeyson’s evil daughter I couldn’t be happier. This is a casting coup. This is a big leap for Blanchett after last year’s Academy Award nominated performance in Carol. However, like many British Sounding* actresses, Blanchett seems to have no problem going back and forth between heady dramas and big budget fantasy films.
How the Queen of the Niflheim fits into the Planet Hulk storyline is still a mystery but that’s just details. This looks to be the most action-packed installment of the Thor trilogy. More details as we get ’em.
If that isn’t enough (it is, but who’s complaining) Karl Urban has been cast as Skurge/The Executioner and Jeff Goldblum joins him as The Grandmaster. That latter bit is some inspired casting, I gotta say.
Honestly, this has me happy as a striped-ass baboon. Excelsior!
*That’s right, in other countries, actors don’t look down their noses at the sci-fi and fantasy genres. That’s why the Harry Potter films are full of Academy Award winners and nominees. A part is a part and you give it your all (Also, I know how uncool it is to call Cate Blanchett “British sounding” but I’m trying to get her riled up so she’ll book a flight over here just to kick my ass).
